Lighting the way to Christmas.....

The Christmas Lights were switched on in Brewood today in truly spectacular style. As usual Brewood & District Rotary Club pre-booked the weather with the big man in the red coat himself, with the event drawing a large crowd into the village square.
There was Christmas spirit in abundance alongside stalls hosting mulled wine, mince pies, hot dogs, tombola, hot chocolate and the opportunity to take a big slide or get a great view of the square from the trampoline.
The afternoon began with a new event, Stroll with Santa, with families encouraged to help the guest of honour, Santa Claus himself, on his way into his grotto. On stage, school choirs including those
from St. Mary's & St. Chads, St. Mary's RC School, St. John's Bishops Wood, St. Dominic's and Brewood Middle School (pictured right) filled the square with festive cheer along with the excellent No Men Aloud. Britain’s Got Talent and Text Santa star Jean Martyn bought proceedings to a close with a usually raucous set.
The honour of switching the lights on fell to Lisa and Penny who won the draw from the Santa Stroll event for the exciting task.
As usual there are a great many people who should receive enormous credit for a fantastic afternoon, far too many to list here but every one deserving of great praise. Perhaps a special mention should go to Jo Hollinshead for the idea and work she put into the Stroll with Santa event.
