Local schools agree to work more closely together

Tuesday, 13 December, 2011 - Modified on Tuesday, 13 December, 2011 at 9:32 am

Most local parents will have heard about the Wolgarston Pyramid of schools consisting of the first schools in Brewood, Coven, Bishops Wood, Penkridge & Dunston, Brewood & Penkridge Middle schools and Wolgarston High School.

Four of those schools have decided to develop the relationship further for the mutual benefit of each school. Their initial objectives are to share experience and expertise, to identify areas of cost saving and to utilise resources to maximum effect.

The new Wolgarston Collaboration released the following statement:

"The ongoing changes in educational funding and strategy (both local and national) are creating financial and administrative pressures within all of our schools. In order to ensure we maintain and improve the experience of children and young people (within the 4-18 age range) there is a need to foster greater collaboration amongst our schools with the aim of finding innovative ways of working more efficiently and cost effectively.  Whilst, locally, over recent years this has increasingly taken place on an informal basis, the under
mentioned schools have taken the opportunity to formalise an arrangement under the umbrella of “The Wolgarston Collaboration”."

A formal constitution was signed on 23rd November 2011 at Wolgarston High School by the Headteachers & Chairs of Governors from St John’s CE (VC) First School, Bishops Wood, St Leonard’s CE(VC) First School, Dunston, St Mary and St Chad CE (VC) First School, Brewood and Wolgarston High School, Penkridge.
